“The General” left Amakhosi at the weekend, taking up the chance of a new adventure at nearby Wits.
Nengomasha made the decision despite the fact that Chiefs had offered to renew his contract as Wits stepped in and offered him a better deal.
Chiefs said they would still hold a testimonial game for one of their longest serving players sometime next year.
Nengomasha drove to South Africa last week and held negotiations with his new club before signing on the dotted line at the weekend. Chiefs had been planning talks with him over a contract renewal, but were only going to offer a one-year extension.
Nengomasha would not be guaranteed a regular spot in the side, having been dropped by Vladimir Vermezovic in favour of fellow Zimbabwean Willard Katsande last season.
Once Vermezovic was sacked, the Zimbabwean international came back to claim his position in the heart of the Chiefs midfield and finished the season back in the starting line-up.
Nengomasha, who will turn 30 later this year, made 306 starts for Chiefs.— Sowetan/Sports Reporter.
