Kaizer Chiefs, replacing Jimmy Tau.
Nengomasha took over the armband on Sunday during the Telkom Knockout match against Platinum Stars ending speculation, which had been rife at the club since the month began, that Tau had thrown in the towel.
The veteran midfielder has been deputising Tau at Naturena for the past two years and spent a year guiding the ship when the South African was injured.
Nengomasha played a big hand in guiding Chiefs to the PSL title during the 2003-2004 season and was rewarded for his part in the title charge with the PSL Players’ Player of the Year award.
He joined the Soweto giants in 2001.
Nengomasha has also helped Zimbabweans to settle well at the club.
Chiefs have Thomas Sweswe, Zhaimu Jambo, Lincolin Zvasiya and Willard Katsande in their ranks while Warriors striker Knowledge Musona left the club in May to join the Bundesliga.
Serbian coach Vladimir Vermezovic on Sunday revealed that Tau was no longer the captain of the team.
According to Kick Off, the Serbian reluctantly conceded he had stripped Tau of the captaincy and “Nengomasha is captain from now on”.
He said he had “four captains” at his disposal at Chiefs, including Nengomasha, which is why the long-serving midfielder was suitable for the role.
Tau, who missed Chiefs’ match against Black Leopards after the Africa Cup of Nations break, made a return to the starting XI in the 2-1 loss to Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout Cup last 16 match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.
Remarkably, Nengomasha was handed the captain’s armband in that match.
Vermezovic though, refuted claims that he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Tau after they allegedly clashed after Chiefs lost 2-1 to Golden Arrows in a league match in Polokwane at the end of September. Tau sent an e-mail to the club’s management asking to step down as captain.
