IN a move aimed at strengthening its technological capabilities and aligning with global telecommunications advancements, a senior delegation from NetOne, Zimbabwe’s leading mobile network operator, recently visited Barcelona, Spain – a global technology and innovation hub – to engage with experts and explore the latest advancements.
The delegation led by NetOne’s chief executive officer, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, participated in high-level meetings and workshops focusing on network expansion, cybersecurity, and 5G technology deployment.
Eng Mushanawani said the knowledge gained is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping NetOne’s future strategy.
“This trip is a critical step in our journey towards sustainable growth and technological excellence. We are focused on aligning our operations with global standards to exceed our customers’ expectations.
“We also recognise the importance of supporting NDS1, which aims to drive economic growth and modernization across Zimbabwe’s sectors,” said Eng Mushanawani.
NetOne’s chief commercial officer, Mr Learnmore Musunda, said the visit has provided them with valuable insights into how they can enhance their commercial operations to better serve their market.
Chief technology officer, Mr Christopher Muchechemera, echoed Mr Musunda’s sentiments emphasising their focus on network modernisation and the adoption of 5G technology, which is expected to revolutionise Zimbabwe’s telecommunications landscape.
“The future of connectivity lies in 5G, and we are committed to bringing this technology to Zimbabwe. This visit has allowed us to explore cutting-edge solutions that will enable us to modernize our network infrastructure and provide faster, more reliable services to our customers,” said Mr Muchechemera.
OneMoney general manager, Mr Joseph Machiva, who was also part of the delegation, underscored the importance of integrating financial technology (fintech) into the broader telecommunications ecosystem.
“OneMoney is a critical component of our strategy to drive financial inclusion in Zimbabwe. This trip has provided us with valuable insights into how we can further enhance our platform to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Mr Machiva.
