adminLONDON. — Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger accepts that all neutrals want Leicester to win the English Premier League soccer title this season.
The Foxes moved five points clear at the summit on Saturday after beating Manchester City and the Gunners, eight points adrift of the shock leaders, faced a tricky trip to Bournemouth in their Super Sunday clash yesterday.
Having last won in the league on January 2, the Arsenal boss was desperate for victory and knows that most football fans were rooting for the Cherries to help the cause of the Foxes.
Asked if the whole country was behind Leicester, Wenger said: “Of course. And it’s natural. It’s normal.
“The advantage they have until the end of the season, apart from our fans and the City fans and Tottenham fans, the rest of the country is behind Leicester.
“You reproach me about not buying big names but you will support the team who have no big names.”
And in his own way, Wenger too is delighted at the success enjoyed by Claudio Ranieri and his men.
He believes they are an example of excellent housekeeping, with the two stars of the show — Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez — costing the Midlands club a mere £1.35million in transfer fees.
And he used that to defend his own policies.
“You reproach me about not buying big names but you support the team who has no big names,” said Wenger.
“Leicester is a fantastic example that football is not only about just spending the money. It is the quality of work. Leicester is a very good example for our league.” — Sky Sports.
