THE rivalry battle between Simon ‘Big Sam’ Madanhire and Bulawayo-based Noel ‘Seek and Destroy’ Mpofu is set to be re-ignited once again at the Pound-for-Pound Night, as local boxing makes another huge statement of its road to recovery.
Excitement has gripped the boxing fraternity with the return of the Pound-for-Pound Friday boxing nights after sporting activities had been halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Seven international and five local bouts have been lined up.
One of the organisers, Eric Kandiwa, said they will have boxers from Malawi, Zambia, Scotland and Zimbabwe.
“This is our second season of Pound-for-Pound boxing series Friday fight nights; the first one was on the 5th of June at the Harare Showgrounds.
“We will be hosting this series on the last Friday of every month. This year we have 11 events in total that will benefit our boxers as we need to keep them active,” he said.
“We are excited to start off the Pound-for-Pound calendar year with “The Beatdown”, which will feature 12 explosive bouts featuring top rated local and international talents that include former two-time Commonwealth champion Lee ‘The Aberdeen Assassin’ McAllister from Scotland.
Zimbabwe’s Brendon ‘Boika’ Denes, and undefeated sensation Enock ‘Chochocho’ Musambudzi will be participating.
The boxing fiesta is set for March 4 at Newlands Country Club in Harare.
