At least 5 000 youths, women and war veterans will benefit from a capacity-building programme introduced by Government to boost agricultural productivity, in line with Vision 2030.

The programme, which is aimed at transforming livelihoods at household level, is scheduled to commence on April 5.

Director of agricultural education in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Jotamu Dondofema, said the programme will equip citizens with farming skills.

“The capacity-building training programmes that are underway are targeted for all provinces with at least 500 trainees per province.

“Trying to leave no one and no place behind, youths, women and war veterans are targeted. The programme will commence by the 5th of April 2022 emphasising agriculture as a business to transform the livelihoods at household level,” he said.

Mr Dondofema said the areas of emphasis hinge on production, productivity and profitability, in line with crops and livestock production.

“The practicing and prospective farmers should be guided by certain principles and policies as stipulated in the NDS1 towards the attainment of Vision 2030,” he added.
