The Zimbabwe Republic Police have arrested a 71-year-old man for allegedly choking to death a 6-year-old boy whom he accused of stealing his sweet reeds in Chivi last week.
Circumstances are that the victim went to the suspect’s field with his three siblings and stole sweet reeds before the suspect chased him and strangled him to death.
In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Aphios Gwatirenda (71) in connection with the murder of a minor (6) at Runoza Village, Chivi on 04 March 2022.
“The victim together with three other siblings (aged 10-12) allegedly went to the suspect’s field where they stole sweet reeds before the suspect chased the victim and strangled him to death.”
