NEW: 85 000 arrested for cross border related crimes

84 949 people have been arrested for cross border related crimes, since the launch of the ‘No to Cross Border Crimes’ operation in January this year.

On Boxing Day alone, 487 people were arrested across the country under the operation.

Said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on its Twitter account:

“On 26-12-21 Police arrested 487 people countrywide under the operation ‘No to Cross Border Crimes’. So far Police have arrested 84 979 people throughout the country since the operation commenced in January 2021.”

In addition to the arrests, 23 shacks which were harbouring people suspected to be aiding illegal border crossing and smuggling activities in Beitbridge were destroyed on Boxing Day.

“On 26-12-21, the ZRP and other security forces on operation ‘No to Cross Border Crimes’ demolished 23 shacks along the Limpopo River in Chikwalakwala,” said police.
