A Chitungwiza man has been arraigned before the courts, on allegations of stealing agriculture equipment from the same farm three times, and finally getting caught on the third attempt.
Ashley Tinashe Kahanda (33) of Mhundwa village, Chief Seke, Chitungwiza appeared before Harare magistrate, Mrs Tafadzwa Miti, facing charges of theft of farm equipment worth US$4 000.
Prosecutor, Mr Anesu Chirenje, told the court that on November 19, Kahanda went to Butler Farm, in Manyame in Harare where he dismantled and stole 15 irrigation pipes at night and went away unnoticed.
On December 10, he returned to the farm in the cover of darkness and allegedly stole a 75 metre armoured cable that powered an irrigation centre pivot.
And, on the night of Unity Day (December 22), he went to the farm for the third time and allegedly got into a tobacco field intending to steal some 6 metre x 3-inch irrigation pipes.
Kahanda unhooked four pipes, and whilst in the process of unfastening the fifth pipe, alert security guards spotted him and apprehended him.
The matter was reported to the police and after questioning, the suspect led detectives to where he had hidden some of the stolen items.
