African nations must take full control of their economic resources and ensure benefits of their natural wealth stay within the continent.
This was said by South Africa’s African National Congress Youth League leader, Cde Collen Malajti, at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport yesterday ahead of the upcoming International Youth Summit on Land and Economic Liberation, which will be held in Harare from May 23 to 26.
Cde Malajti, who is also the Africa Youth Congress SADC Regional Coordinator, highlighted that the struggle for economic liberation must be driven by African unity, with a focus on ensuring that the continent’s rich resources, particularly minerals, benefit the people of Africa.
“Zimbabwe is our home, and the fight for economic freedom must continue,” Cde Maljti said. “We cannot afford to let our resources be exploited by foreign powers, leaving us with nothing. Our minerals, our land, must remain in Africa to create employment and lift our people out of poverty.
“Africa is blessed with resources, but we must be the ones to determine how they are used.”
