The African Union Sports Council (AUSC), which is in the country for Region 5 (Southern Africa) meetings, has toured the Geo Pomona Waste Management site and sports facilities in Harare.

The delegation included AUSC officials from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Mr Nicholas Moyo said the visit was meant for AUSC member states to have an appreciation of waste management solutions in Zimbabwe.

“Zimbabwe is currently hosting these member states for the AUSC Region 5 meetings (November 5th – 16th, 2024),” he said.

“It is in this context, that the Ministry has identified your facility for other member states to appreciate waste management solutions that minimise negative environmental impact.”

AUSC officials commended Geo Pomona for transforming the dumpsite into a modern waste processing facility, adding that they will sell the idea to their Governments.
