EXHIBITORS who showcased at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) have described the event as highly successful, whilst police commended the public for maintaining law and order during the six-day fair.

The 114th edition of ZAS, which was officially opened by Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi ended on Saturday last week.

Running under the theme “Cultivating prosperity: Growing business. Innovating for change: Nurturing Our Future” the exhibition attracted an estimated 200 000 visitors since it started on Monday last week.

Over 500 exhibitors took more than 70 000 square metres of space at the Exhibition Park, up from 53 300 square metres occupied last year.

In an interview, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said no major criminal reports had been recorded.

“I want to say, that what has been experienced at the show should be a mirror of law and order which must exist not only in Harare but in other towns in future. We had the same peaceful environment during the recent SADC Summit and we want to thank members of the public for this,” he said.

Comm Nyathi clarified rumours circulating on social media regarding the alleged disappearance of four children during the course of the show.

He urged parents or guardians with missing children to lodge reports with police.

“As far as we are concerned, no such reports have been received and generally we want to thank Zimbabweans who visited the exhibition arena because we have had a peaceful environment,” he said.

“The security situation has been good. The public has cooperated and as we speak we have not recorded any major incident in terms of crime, save for isolated reports of cell phone snatching by some criminals and those reports have been recorded.”
