SUNGURA musician Alick Macheso was the major drawcard at a highly subscribed drug and substance abuse awareness campaign held in Harare’s high-density suburb of Mabvuku on Saturday.

“Baba Sharo”, as Macheso is affectionately known in music circles, received a resounding welcome when he took to the stage to address thousands of mostly young people who were in attendance.

“As a father, it pains me to see our youngsters taking dangerous drugs. I urge all of you to desist from taking drugs and live a clean, fruitful life,” Macheso said to another deafening round of applause.

The awareness campaign, which saw dancehall artists Pumacol, Bazooker, Enzo IshaLl and Culture performing, was organised by Chillspot Records.

DJ Fantan, the Chillspot Records boss, thanked Macheso for supporting the event.

“Baba Sharo is a very busy man. He, however, found it worthwhile to attend this event. I urge other artists to come aboard and help in the fight against drug and substance abuse.”
