THE Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) has started a countywide cotton production training campaign in rural areas, as more cotton growers come on board.

Government has introduced a number of support programmes to boost the cotton farming sector after years of underinvestment.

In an update on its Twitter handle, AMA said the training will be done countrywide.

AMA has so far covered Mudzi District in Mutoko.

“First training was on cotton production and harvesting at Chief Makosa’s homestead in Katsande Village, Mudzi. The afternoon training was held at Mavhurazi Irrigation Scheme, Mudzi, on horticulture production,” reads the update.

The training was also done in Murehwa and centred on cotton production, market-led production contract farming, scheme organisation and horticultural production at Nyamutumbu Irrigation Scheme.

Over the last two years, the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) has been deepening its relationship with farmers to boost production.
