ACE Simba Bhora striker, Tinashe Balakasi, has become one of the early pacesetters in the race for the Northern Region Soccer League’s (NRSL) Golden Boot with his 12 goals from 10 matches, helping to propel the Shamva outfit to the summit of the Division One log standings.
30-year-old Balakasi was on target again last Saturday, as his brace helped Simba Bhora to a massive 7-0 win against Cam and Motor at Wadzanai Stadium.
After getting into double figures on his tally, Balakasi is now aiming to surpass the 20-goal mark that has seemingly been elusive in the league.
It is a similar story in the Premier Soccer League where the strikers there have struggled to breach Norman Maroto’s 22-goal tally, 11 years on.
Ngezi Under-19 forward, Takunda Benhura, and Golden Eagles’ Claudio Mapoka, with six goals apiece have ensured that Balakasi is kept in check as he threatens to run away with the Golden Boot gong.
Balakasi’s teammate, Barnabas Mushunje, who had a stint with Dynamos, is on five goals together with Wesley Chifamba of Black Mambas, while Henry Manatsa who is with Golden Eagles has four, together with Alex Zimunhu.
Thanks to the scoring exploits of Balakasi, Simba are in pole position, ahead of Herentals Under-20, courtesy of a superior goal difference.
