AFTER a fortnight of haggling between the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa), Premier Soccer League (PSL), and Sheasham, the premiership debutants are a relieved lot after their home ground – Bata Stadium – was certified fit to host top-flight games.
This means that Sheasham will on Saturday play Herentals for their Match-day 12 fixture on the home ground, which they spent a fortune refurbishing.
Bata Stadium was initially given the thumbs-up early May, and hosted the match between Sheasham and Highlanders on May 7.
However, the PSL’s emergency committee, citing some irregularities, revoked the certification and directed that the stadium needed to also comply with the health and safety requirements for supporters.
Sheasham have since been working on all the issues raised by the PSL.
“Playing at Bata Stadium is in our best interests; it is in the best interest of Midlands, Gweru and our supporters,” said club vice president Happy Dziva.
“We remain a member of the Premier Soccer League, and fully subscribe to its authority as spelt out in the statutes.”
While they return to Bata Stadium, the Gweru-based team have to await the outcome of a boardroom determination on their ill-fated clash against CAPS United, which had been scheduled for Mandava in Zvishavane.
