The accused, Shingirai Mapakwe, appeared before Mutawatawa magistrate, Mr Obedience Matare, on Monday facing murder charges.

He was remanded in custody to June 7.

It is the States’ case that on May 11 2023 at Mhira Village, Shingirai received a message to the effect that Georgina Kuguyo (the now deceased) had gone to Mutawatawa Police Station alleging that he wanted to rape her.

This did not go well with Shingirai, who then took a wooden hammer handle from his homestead and proceeded to Georgina’s homestead, where he entered her bedroom and struck her several times all over the body.

The now deceased sustained broken arms, and a deep cut on the head.

She was then ferried to the Nyadire Hospital, where she died upon admission.

The matter was reported to ZRP Mutawatawa, leading to Shingirai’s arrest on May 13.
