Broadcasters have been banned from airing of advertising content for churches and traditional healers with immediate effect.

The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) said in a letter to the broadcasters that the move aimed at safeguarding the public from misleading information and ensuring that broadcasters adhered to ethical standards in their programming.

“This letter serves to remind you of the Authority’s directive to all broadcasters to stop the broadcasting of advertising content from churches and traditional healers and of traditional herbs and medicines which cannot be authenticated since they tend to mislead the public,” reads part of the letter.

BAZ said discussion programmes or debates on these topics were not prohibited, as long as they did not contain advertising content.
