A Harare man who used an illegal border crossing point from South Africa on Tuesday lost R41 500 to armed robbers.
“On August 31, at around 5am, a Harare man was robbed of cash amounting to R41 500, various clothes and a J4 cellphone by two unknown suspects at a bush area near Limpopo View, Beitbridge,” said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in a statement on Twitter on Wednesday.
“The ZRP reiterates that members of the public must comply with Covid-19 regulations and use authorised ports of entry and exit on the country’s borders.”
Police recently announced that 45 146 people were arrested across the country between January and August 28, 2021 for various cross-border crimes.
In January, police launched operation “No to cross border crimes/mhosva pamiganhu ngadzipere” in a bid to curb criminal activities at ports of entry and exit around Zimbabwe.
The country has seen a rise in cross-border crimes during the Covid-19 period.
