OVER 100 budding boxers are set to congregate at Sizinda in Bulawayo for an amateur tournament this weekend.

The tournament is being hosted by the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation, and is expected to showcase talent from across the country’s 10 provinces.

There has been an upsurge in enthusiasm following the recent achievements by Zimbabwean boxers, including Charles Manyuchi, Brendon Denes and Kudakwashe Chiwandire.

National amateur boxing coach, Alexander Kwangwari, is optimistic the tournament will yield the desired results.

“All provinces will be represented, and we are expecting over 100 boxers, both male and female,” said Kwangwari.

“We have a number of programmes lined up, as we gear up for the upcoming international tournaments.

“There is the All-Africa Games and the Olympic Games coming in the next few years, so we need to build a good base of boxers,” he said.
