New brooms at MBA

THE Manicaland Basketball Association (MBA) has put into office new leadership that is expected to turn around the fortunes of the sport in the province.

Mutare basketball personality Tonderai Shasha was elected new president and will now replace outgoing leader Bruce Chikoto. Perseverance Mhene was chosen the new secretary general while one Dimitris will be the treasurer.

Exceptional gifted national team player Moses Muyambo will be in charge of technical aspects of the game in the new executive committee set up while Ernest Mazani will be in charge of Games and Competitions. The Women and Youth Development task was given to Rita Sebia while Jack Machkeke will be on the Athletes Commission desk.

Lanky Taurai Dhliwayo bounces back in the Media and Publicity portfolio while Tendai Kudinha will be in charge of Marketing and Promotions.

Nyanga based Eric Wela, Blessing Mafuta and David Makwaka are the new committee members. Dhliwayo confirmed the results of the elections saying the new leadership is geared to work round the clock for the good of the game of basketball in Manicaland.

“We held our elections and the new leadership is geared to work round the clock for the good of the game of basketball in Manicaland. The individuals are fully aware and understand what is expected of them.

“We really want to thank all the clubs and stakeholders for putting their faith in us. We will work hard as one family to make our league more entertaining,” he said.

Dhliwayo added that the new executive is now in the process of engaging various corporate with the aim of partnering them to develop the game of basketball. Meanwhile, action in the Manicaland Basketball League resumed this weekend after taking a sabbatical during the festive holiday. The recent Basketball against drugs tournament came in as a perfect warm up competition for the remaining matches of the season.

“We are happy that the recent Basketball against drugs tournament came in as a perfect warm up competition ahead of the second and final part of the season.

“Unfortunately we will not be able to use Raylton Sports Club courts owing to the burnouts that have badly damaged the surface. We are currently engaging Mutare Sports Club and others as alternatives,” he added.
