NEW: Businessman fatally assaults employee

WELL-KNOWN Mutare business family’s son, John Mangenje allegedly heavily assaulted their employee as punishment for reporting for duty while drunk resulting in his death two days later.

 

Mangenje (41) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Langton Carter recently.

 

He was granted $40 000 bail.

 

It is the State’s case led by prosecutor, Mr Nyasha Mukonyora that Mangenje assaulted the now deceased, Leo Fafutani Kufahakutengwi, on March 11 at Chigomba Shopping Centre after a misunderstanding over his drunken state.

 

The court heard that Mangenje heavily assaulted the now deceased with fists, feet and later used a cricket bat.

 

Two days later, the now deceased was found lying on the ground and was taken to a shed by his friend where he later died.

 

A post mortem conducted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals concluded that the Kufahakutengwi died because of Severe Abdominal Trauma.

 

Mangenje was arrested.
