Professional and amateur chess players from across the country will next week converge in Harare for the Zimbabwe Open Chess tournament.

The four-day tournament will be held between December 18 and 21 at Joina City, and is the brainchild of the Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF).

FIDE laws of chess apply.

According to a statement by ZCF, 70 players have already registered for the competition.

“We are expecting some foreign players to take part in the tournament, although just a few due to the Covid-19 restrictions,” said ZCF public relations, media and communications director, Thabo Elisha.

“Some of the top players that will be participating are Emerald Mushore and Spencer Masango.

“Masango, who recently won the Botswana Chess Championships last week, will be looking to continue with the winning momentum,” said Elisha.
