NEW: Chief Makumbe dies in road accident

Chief Makumbe of Buhera, born Takudzwa Paul Chengeta, has died.

He died in a fatal accident that occurred on the 86 km peg along the Harare-Mutare highway around 4 pm on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the Toyota Hilux GD6 that the traditional leader was driving collided head-on with a Gold Class bus.

His body was taken to Marondera Hospital mortuary.

A passenger in his car sustained injuries and was also rushed to the same hospital for assistance.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident but could not give more details.

“A local chief has died in an accident. We will be releasing more details in due course,” he said.
