NEW: Child dies after being hit by a dump truck in Gweru

A six-year-old child tragically lost his life on Saturday morning after he was hit by a refuse collection truck operated by Gweru City Council near Clifton Park suburb.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“Police in Gweru are investigating a fatal road traffic accident where a six-year-old boy was allegedly hit by a Gweru City Council dump truck and died on the spot. This occurred on May 24 around 11am,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the driver, Phillip Makotore ( 58), was driving the UD dumb truck towards Clifton Park high-density suburb in Gweru.

“Circumstances around the incident are being investigated to establish prosecution evidence for culpable homicide.”
