NEW: Clerk of Parliament Chokuda to appear in court today

THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) says Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda, who has been arrested for alleged criminal abuse of office, will appear in court today.

ZACC deputy spokesperson Dr Munyaradzi Magiga told The Sunday Mail Online that the arrest is in connection with the laptop procurement scandal.

“I can confirm that the Clerk of Parliament was arrested and he will be appearing in court today,” he said.

“The arrest is in connection with the laptop scandal.”

ZACC announced the arrest on microblogging site Twitter earlier on Thursday.

“ZACC has arrested Clerk of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Mugove Chokuda, for criminal abuse of duty as a public officer as defined in Section 174 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23,” read part of the statement.
