NEW: Concern over unqualified free body scan operators

Online Reporter

HEALTH authorities have raised alarm over the proliferation of unqualified individuals and establishments offering free body scans.

There are fears that unskilled operators may misinterpret scan results and put patients’ health in danger.

Speaking during a media familiarisation meeting hosted by the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe on Tuesday, Natural Therapists Council of Zimbabwe member Dr George Danda said many individuals offering the service are not trained.

“At one time, I had to go there. They test you and they send your results by email without any interpretation,” he said.

“Some people in this country go and buy those machines and start using them and prescribing traditional medicines to people anyhow because they say they are registered with the Traditional Medicines Practitioners Council.”
