New councillors urged to deliver

The recently elected councillors in Marondera have been urged to priorities service delivery in  and stick to their mandate as enshrined by the Urban Councils Act.

The call was made by Marondera district development coordinator Mr Clemence Masawi while officiating at the swearing-in ceremony of six CCC councillors.

The six councillors, former Deputy Mayor Chengetai Murowa (Ward 1), former Deputy Mayor Boniface Tagwirei (Ward 3), Charles Ngwena (Ward 4), Misheck Manyere (Ward 5), Wonder Siliya (Ward 6) and Size Vilela (Ward 11),took oath of office after they were re-elected following their recall by the MDC-Alliance’s Douglas Mwonzora last year.

The councillors took oath of office before acting town clerk Mr Rinashe Nyamuzihwa, the Chamber Secretary.

They joined the MDC-Alliance’s Simbarashe Nyahuye (Ward 2), Deputy Mayor Dominic Matangira (Ward 7), Jimmy Jalifu (Ward 9), Mubaiwa Dzvuke (Ward 8), Gresham Muponda (Ward 10) and Zanu PFs Joel Mujaranji (Ward 12).

Mr Masawi challenged the councillors to improve service delivery in Marondera and work to upgrade the livelihoods of every citizen.

“We hope that your coming into office as councilors for Marondera will help to strengthen initiatives that help on the aspect of service delivery. You must be prepared to fulfill your obligations and do what you were mandated to do by the communities that elected you.

“It will not be an easy task but driven by unity of purpose and the desire to see people getting efficient services in terms of refuse collection, the provision of water, good road network and other services, your targets can be achieved. We hope that you will serve the council with distinction,” Mr Masawi said.

The Mayor for Marondera town, councillor Simbarashe Nyahuye said that he was looking forward to work closely with the sworn-in councillors despite their political differences.

hope that we will be able to work in harmony even though we differ in our political ideologies. As councillors, we are representing the people from various wards and we must work hard to develop our town. We have to ensure an efficient and satisfactory service delivery system for our town”.
