The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has reported 49 incidents of human-crocodile conflict in the past 2 months, resulting in 9 deaths and 11 injuries.
In a statement released on Wednesday, ZimParks revealed that at least 44 cattle and 60 goats were also killed during the same period in 49 human-crocodile conflict cases received.
“Mid-Zambezi (Lake Kariba, Angwa River, Hunyani River), the most affected region recorded 19 cases, while Central region (Kwekwe River, Sebakwe River, Munyati River) had 14 cases.
Additionally, 16 cases were recorded among Matopo, Harare, North-West Matabeleland, and South-East Low-veld regions collectively,” said ZimParks.
ZimParks further urged communities to remain cautious, especially around water bodies especially during this rain season.
“Communities must ensure that livestock and children are not left unattended near rivers or lakes to prevent them from becoming easy targets.
“Additionally, when engaging in water activities such as fishing, swimming and any other domestic chores in water, it is essential to barricade around the places to ensure safety.”
