The Zimbabwe Defence Forces yesterday handed over a two-classroom block at Jondale Primary School in Mhondoro-Ngezi District to the community yesterday, marking an end to an era where learners endured two years of learning under difficult conditions.
The ZDF, in partnership with Mhondoro-Ngezi Rural District Council and the community, completed the block that is expected to give learners a conducive learning environment after one of the existing sub-standard structures built in the early 2000s gave in to age and hailstorms. Jondale Primary School was established in 2001 and has an enrolment of over 300 learners.
Personnel and artisans from 5 Infantry Brigade took part in the construction of the classroom block.
Chief of Staff Quartermaster Staff, Major-General Hlanganani Dube, who was guest of honour at the handover ceremony, said the ZDF rallies behind President Mnangagwa’s call for Zimbabweans to build the nation towards Vision 2030.
Said Maj-Gen Dube: “The Zimbabwe Defence Forces is working to bring development to all communities across the country.
“This is in line with our response to President Mnangagwa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Forces, for Zimbabweans to play a part in nation building.”
President Mnangagwa has directed councils to use devolution funds to construct schools to cut the distance that learners walk to the nearest school to about 5km.
Maj-Gen Dube said the ZDF through its community assistance, supports the construction and provision of a conducive learning environment for children.
Mhondoro-Ngezi RDC chief executive, Dr Itai Mawonde and local legislator, Cde Tavengwa Mukuhlani, commended the ZDF for the assistance.
“Mhondoro-Ngezi Constituency has a shortage of schools and learning facilities. The coming in of the ZDF in the construction of this classroom block is commendable,” said Dr Mawonde.
