Online Reporter

DOBBA Don, a former rising dancehall musician who has been battling the effects of drug abuse and was at one time homeless, is now on the mend.

Born Brandon Dumalisile Mehlomakhulu, the youthful artiste has been rescued from the deep end by music promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, who paid for his accommodation and has also signed him to perform on stage this weekend.

“When I read about the youngster’s sad situation, I sent one of my boys to pick him up.

“I sat down with him and we had a long and very fruitful discussion,” said Chipaz.

He subsequently facilitated payment of rent for the “Mudendere” hit-maker in Mufakose and is also catering

for the chanter’s upkeep.

“Some promoters and those that tackle issues to do with drug and substance abuse are not addressing the root cause of the problem. In my view, these people must first look at the root causes before addressing the problems,” Chipaz added.

Dobba Don, who is set to perform in Kuwadzana tomorrow, said stress forced him to turn to drugs.

“My life was in a mess. I was homeless and did not have any source of livelihood. I then turned to recreational drugs for solace.”

He thanked Chipaz and other artistes such as Ti Gonzi, who are playing active roles in his rehabilitation process.

“I am grateful to Chipaz and some of my fellow artistes who are taking an active part in my rehabilitation process.”
