ECONET Wireless Zimbabwe now accounts for nearly 70 percent of active mobile subscribers, latest data from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) shows.

Econet’s active subscriber base gained 5 percent to close 2022 with 69,9 percent of the total market share.

NetOne had 27,4 percent, having lost 4 percent of active subscriptions during the year.

Telecel lost 1 percent of its market share to rank third with 2,7 percent of the total active mobile subscriptions.

Meanwhile, the country’s mobile penetration rate grew by 0,3 percent to reach 94,2 percent as at December 31 2022, marginally up from the 93,9 percent recorded in 2021.

“The growth in the mobile penetration rate is a result of the 0,3 percent annual growth in active mobile telephone subscriptions.

“The mobile penetration rate is expected to continue increasing, with the increased adoption of Internet of Things,” said Potraz in its 2022 annual sector performance report.
