NEW: Eight in the dock for beating “thief” to death

EIGHT people from Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe have been arrested for beating a suspected burglar to death.

Makesure Chibhagidhi (34), Abel Chinyandura (23), Doreen Dumbujena (49), Caynos Mapika (33), Langton Mapika (41), Fredrick Hamadzingai (30), Fanuel Mubaira (25) and Sharon Hamadziripi (35) appeared before Murehwa regional magistrate Mr Obedience Matare yesterday facing murder charges.

They were remanded in custody to May 22.

It is the State’s case that on May 5, 2023, at Nyakusamwa Village, at around 1pm, the accused apprehended the now-deceased Learnmore Kambamura before assaulting him on allegations that he was stealing their property.

Kambamura was later ferried to one Kudakwashe Chibhagidhi’s homestead, where he revealed the accused persons assaulted him with booted feet and clenched fists.

Chibhagidhi reported the matter to ZRP Mutawatawa, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Kambamura, however, later died upon admission at Mutawatawa Hospital.
