NEW: EMA fines 75 farmers

THE Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has fined 75 non-compliant farmers, including those violating fire laws and causing extensive environmental and property damage.

Since July 3, 2023, EMA has been carrying out a blitz against veld fires countrywide.

EMA environmental education and publicity manager Ms Amkela Sidange said: “A total of 75 tickets and 27 dockets have been issued to all those farmers, and those violating the laws and causing extensive damage to the environment and property.”

The scope of the ongoing blitz includes veld fire investigations, prosecution as well as checking on compliance with fire guard construction.
