LOCAL organisation – Chipinge Rural Livelihood and Women Empowerment – has embarked on a savings and credit initiative, popularly known as “mukando” to empower victims of gender-based violence (GBV) in Chipinge South constituency.
At least 34 beneficiaries are already involved in the scheme.
The organisation’s founder, Mrs Mary Mhaka, said the initiative seeks to improve the livelihoods of women in the area.
“After realising that cases of GBV are prevalent in Chipinge, we came together to share experiences and exchange ideas. We then established this savings, credit and lending scheme to enable women to venture into sustainable projects and fend for their families,” said Mrs Mhaka.
Mrs Mhaka said their goal is to financially empower women and reduce the incidence of GBV in the community.
