THE Deaf Zimbabwe Trust (DZT) and USAID have partnered to launch the ‘Empower’ project, which is aimed at enhancing decent employment facilities for youths and young people with disabilities, through skills, access to finance, technical and economic-social support.

US$1 million will be disbursed towards the economic empowerment project, which will enhance decent employment and entrepreneurship for nearly 20 000 youths, including 13 500 disabled youths in Zimbabwe.

DZT executive director and Empower chief of party, Mrs Barbra Nyangariri, said the Empower project will focus on five key areas.

“These five things will include the provision of development skills, access to finance since there is lack of knowledge on where they should access finance, who to talk to, and where to go,” she said.

“It will also focus on legislative reform and social-economic rights monitoring, to ensure their rights are not violated, for instance, on access to justice since there are no sign language interpreters in courts.”
