NEW: Ex-Makoni RDC CEO arrested over alleged US$17 000 theft

THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested the former acting chief executive officer of Makoni Rural District Council Pius Mushaya on allegations of unprocedurally purchasing a personal house.

Mushaya also served as head of human resources and administration at the local authority.

He was taken into custody earlier this week.

In a statement, ZACC said the accused is scheduled to appear at the Mutare Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Allegations are that in 2012, during his tenure as acting CEO, the accused misappropriated US$17 500 from the Council’s Capital Development Fund (CDF) to purchase a house for himself as part of his benefits, in violation of council regulations.

According to the Rural District Councils Act, the CDF is specifically meant for financing capital development projects and the replacement of council assets.
