LANDS, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Deputy Minister Davis Marapira is expected to officially launch the Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) for fisheries and aquaculture in Bulawayo on Thursday.
Running under the theme “Technical support to enhance fish breeding and production in Zimbabwe”, the programme is expected to see the Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Production Department (FARD) receiving fingerlings and technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.

“The programme is expected to enhance the public sector compliance with international standards and market requirements relevant to hatchery facilities,” said FARD in a statement.
In line with Government’s thrust, FARD is expecting to decentralise the fingerlings for national fisheries programmes.
FARD added: “The Technical Cooperation Programme aims to refurbish government fish breeding sites, namely Henderson, Makoholi and Matopos Fisheries Units.
“Thus, the project will promote community participation and gender mainstreaming in the fisheries and aquaculture value chain operations.”
