GOVERNMENT and representatives of civil servants will meet on Monday next week under the umbrella of the National Joint Negotiating Committee (NJNC) to continue salary negotiations.

NJNC comprises Government and public service representatives under the banner of the Apex Council.

During a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima said a meeting to discuss civil servants’ salaries has been scheduled for next week.

“We are negotiating with representatives of civil servants on improving their conditions of service. We have another meeting next week on Monday.

“As Government, we have that commitment to improve their conditions of service and that is why this year alone, we have made periodic reviews to their salaries,” he said.

In a separate interview, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Permanent Secretary Mr Simon Masanga said Government understands the plight of its workers.

“No one is going on industrial action and definitely Government is going to meet the workers’ representatives so as to address their concerns,” he said.

Apart from reviewing the monetary aspect of the civil servants working conditions, Government has also committed to offering the non-monetary incentives such as housing, affordable transport and duty-free importation of vehicles.
