FOUR Harare City Council officials who are appearing at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on allegations of disregarding a competitive bidding process and awarding Moses Mpofu’s Juluka Enndo Joint Venture Company a US$9, 2 million street light installation tender were today released on US$500 bail each.
Never Murerwa, the city’s procurement management unit supply chain manager, Jabulani Mukomazi, a principal buyer, principal accountant Denford Zhungu and engineering technician Tawanda Mutenhabundo were granted bail after regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa upheld their application for bail on changed circumstances.
The quartet, which was represented by lawyer Mr George Manokore, was ordered to report to their respective nearest police stations once every fortnight and to surrender travelling documents.
They were also ordered not to interfere with investigations.
Mrs Gofa ordered the four to return to court on November 22.
Charges against the four arose when they served on the tender evaluation committee that reviewed a tender for Harare roads’ streetlight installation project.
It is alleged that the quartet, sitting on the evaluation committee, disregarded the competitive bidding process and awarded the tender to Mpofu’s company.
