A HARARE car technician is facing charges of theft of trust property after he sold a Mercedes-Benz Viano belonging to a client.
Tinashe Chipondiwa (29) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda.
He was remanded in custody to May 18, 2022.
Prosecutor Ms Lynette Gwasira said sometime in 2020, the complainant, Tawanda Takaindisa (a representative of Law Criminal and Commercial Law Chamber), gave the accused his company vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz Viano, to fix its gearbox.
The accused promised to fix the vehicle within a month.
After the given period lapsed, the complainant checked with the accused person on progress and discovered that nothing had been done.
In December 2020, the complainant made a follow-up and was advised that there were other defects that needed to be fixed, and that some spare parts needed to be imported.
Later that same month, the complainant again went to check on the vehicle, but the accused became evasive.
The complainant eventually established that the accused person had unlawfully sold the motor vehicle without the registration book, thereby violating their trust agreement to hand back the vehicle after it was fixed.
The vehicle, valued at US$8 000, has since been recovered and is being held as an exhibit.
