NEW: Harare man murdered over a cigarette

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a murder that occurred at Zindoga Shops in Waterfalls on Saturday during a fight over a cigarette.

Police are also looking into an attempted murder case over the same incident.

In a statement on Monday, police said the victims and the suspects were drinking beer when an argument over a cigarette between Bekithemba Mpilo (24) and Munyaradzi Maodzwa (30), degenerated into a fight.

“During the fight, Munyaradzi Maodzwa and Marlvin Maodzwa (26) teamed up and stabbed Bekithemba Mpilo on the neck with an okapi knife while Anxious Matsambira was stabbed in the stomach after he intervened to stop the fight,” reads the statement.

“Bekithemba Mpilo died on admission at a local hospital while Anxious Mutsambira sustained deep cuts on the stomach and is admitted at a local hospital.”
