ZIMBABWE high jump champion Kudakwashe Chadenga continued his hot streak as the South Palms College freshman broke his own record at the Texas Tech Shootout this past weekend.
The youngster has been on a tear during the month of February, clearing the 2,14-metre mark five times in two different meets.
His latest effort of 2,22m at the Texas Tech Shootout saw him break his own record, set last week at the Charles Thomas Invitational.
This moves him up to fourth all-time jumps in National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) history.
It is also the highest jump by a Junior College (JUCO) athlete since 2012, and ties him in number five among all collegians this year.
Chadenga’s jump at the Charlie Thomas Invitational saw him break a 19-year-old Zimbabwean record previously held by the legendary Juma Phiri.
For his effort, he has since been named National Athlete of the Week in indoor track-and-field, and becomes the ninth male athlete from South Plains to receive such an honour.
