A HONDE Valley woman is gripped by fear, describing her home as a “house of horror” where mysterious forces seem to be dismantling it under the cover of darkness.

Lilian Sango, a 50-year-old mother of three, recently moved into her newly built home in Gatsi, Honde Valley, but believes her property is haunted.

Desperate for relief, she is now seeking spiritual assistance to end the terrifying ordeal.

In a candid phone interview on Tuesday, Sango shared her harrowing experiences since relocating to her rural property in January.

“I purchased this residential plot last year, and built structures while still staying in Mutasa where I worked. However, since moving in January, I have known no peace. Strange noises plague me almost every evening, sounding like the roof is being torn off or stones are being thrown onto it. I am at a loss for what to do,” she said, adding that the unexplained disturbances start around 6pm and continue until morning, leaving her sleepless and frightened.

Initially, she suspected that jealous neighbours might be behind the disturbances, but some spiritualists she consulted told her it was unrelated.

“The prophets I have consulted say it is connected to my family — it is something spiritual or ancestral that requires attention,” she explained, her voice shaking as she recounted the emotional toll of the strange occurrences.

She expressed her desperation: “I have reached my breaking point. I can no longer live like this. Every time I try to relax or sleep, the noises start. It is as if someone is watching or tormenting me. Sometimes, I even feel a heavy presence in the house.”

Sango has not reported the strange happenings to Village-head Kwesha, believing that the problem lies within her own family rather than the community.

“It is not about the area I have built in, so I have not approached the village head. The prophets say it is a family matter requiring cleansing or spiritual attention to resolve it,” she explained.

Living alone has exacerbated her situation.

Her three children are grown up and stay in different towns and cities, with some married and working.

“I am here alone, without anyone to turn to when these incidents occur. It is challenging, but I am relieved that my children are not being affected by this haunted house situation,” she said.

What is more concerning, she revealed, is that these strange experiences are not new to her.

“This started while I was still working in Mutasa, and it was even worse then. In 2023, I went for an entire week without sleeping. I was so exhausted and sleep-deprived that I felt like I was on the verge of collapsing. Every time I tried to sleep, I would be jolted awake by the sounds. It felt like I was being tormented,” she recalled.

Despite her growing fear, Sango is hesitant to abandon her home. She believes that with spiritual guidance, she can find a solution to the mysterious disturbances and restore peace to her life.

“This is my home, built with my own sweat and hands. I will not abandon it, although I can no longer endure this torment. I yearn for freedom and peaceful sleep,” said Sango, her voice laced with desperation.

She implored traditional healers, prophets, and spiritual experts to intervene.

“I am exhausted. If anyone can offer assistance, please do. I cannot endure this anymore,” she pleaded softly.

Her brother, Nathan Sango, also confirmed the bizarre occurrences, saying his sister recently visited him in Chegutu, seeking help.

“She came to me, and we consulted spiritual healers. We still have not identified the root cause, but we are trying. Each time these incidents occur, she falls ill, loses strength, and succumbs to deep sadness. It is heart-breaking to witness her going through this ordeal,” he said, further appealing for assistance from anyone with experience in such matters.

“We are simply asking for help. Perhaps someone out there knows what to do. We find no peace knowing our sister is leading such a miserable life. We need prayers, healing, or something to bring her relief,” said Nathan, echoing his sister’s plea for support.

Spiritual healers, Madzimai Irene Chijuba and Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (Zinatha) president, George Kandiero weighed in on Sango’s plight, and offered their insights into the situation.

According to Madzimai Chijuba, Sango’s problems may be caused by a spiritual marriage arranged by her family, which is preventing her from building a steady home for her family.

“Usually in such cases, she will have been married off to a man spiritually by her family when she was young or before she was born,” she said.

Kandiero attributed Sango’s misfortunes to a jealous spirit that does not want her to excel.

“Even if she goes far away and builds a house, it will still be inhabitable unless she gets help. She can be helped depending on who is helping her. At Zinatha, we can help her,” he said.

Both healers stressed the need for Sango to seek help from a qualified healer to resolve her problems.
