New hospitality school on cards

officer, Dr Frederick Kasese, said preparations for the ground-breaking ceremony were at an advanced stage.
Upon completion, the hospitality school will be the third institution to offer tourism courses after Masvingo Polytechnic College and Great Zimbabwe University.
The school will also offer certificate and diploma courses.
“Plans are afoot for the Regency Hotels and Leisure Group to establish a hospitality school and we have since applied for the land at a site we have so far identified.
“Subject to approval, the school, will be built at the Flamboyant Hotel site and we endeavour to make it a unique one,” said Dr Kasese.
He said the school would assist many students who were failing to get places at other institutions of higher learning adding that it would strive to provide quality training.
“We are hoping to attract a competitive teaching staff for the college and by so doing we would churn out quality graduates.
“We want to try as much as possible to match world-class standards thereby adhering to the international best practice in the field of tourism and hospitality,” he said.
Dr Kasese, who is also Zimbabwe Tourism Authority provincial chairman, said Masvingo had many professionals most of whom were unemployed and the establishment of a hotel school could bring a sigh of relief to the job seekers.
“By establishing this school, we will obviously create employment opportunities for the unemployed graduates that we have.
“The college will be run professionally and we will make sure that tenets of good corporate governance are followed.
“By so doing that will give the school an opportunity to enjoy a competitive advantage,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Masvingo City Mayor Alderman Femius Chakabuda proved fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable at the time of going to press. Repeated efforts to see him at the council offices were also unsuccessful as he was said not to be away.
However, according to latest council minutes, the city council confirmed having received the application for land from Regency Hotels and Leisure Group.
The matter was referred to the housing committee for consideration.
