HOSSANA LOVE IN AFRICA CHILDREN’S HOME got a lift on Friday when Mrs Lyu Renhong — the wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Zhou Ding — donated an assortment of goods, telling the children that they were “the hope of the world”.
In a speech at the handover ceremony, Mrs Lyu said the gesture symbolised the enduring friendship and solidarity with Zimbabwe’s future — the children.
“The Chinese Embassy and our vibrant community in Zimbabwe have always held a profound belief: Leave no one and no place behind. This principle guides our efforts to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Zimbabwean people, particularly our young friends,” she said.“Over the years, we have collaborated to build schools to nurture dreams, clinics to safeguard health, boreholes to quench thirst and roads to connect opportunities. These projects are not mere infrastructure — they are bridges of hope, ensuring that every child, family, and community can thrive with dignity.”
China and Zimbabwe, she said, are more than partners, but brothers and sisters in pursuit of progress.
“Decades ago, China was a nation grappling with poverty. Yet, through unity, hard work and an unyielding spirit, we transformed our destiny,” she added.
“Today, as the world’s second-largest economy and a country that has eradicated absolute poverty, we stand as living proof that no challenge is insurmountable. Zimbabwe, too, is a land of extraordinary beauty, resilience and untapped potential.”
She encouraged the children not to let their circumstance shape them, as they had the power to shape Zimbabwe’s future.
“Boys and girls, look around this room, you are surrounded by people who believe in you. Did you know some kids who grew up right here have gone on to universities, pursued careers and now they are uplifting others, just as you will someday?” she said.
“Last year, someone from here won the ‘Chinese Bridge’ competition, speaking the Chinese language so well it made everyone cheer! Moreover, some others have earned Chinese Government Scholarships, enabling them to pursue their studies in China. That’s the power of believing in yourselves.”
Mrs Lyu said Zimbabwe and China had made remarkable progress in fostering a robust partnership.
“This year, as we commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two nations, we take pride in the remarkable progress we have made in fostering a robust partnership. Looking ahead, we will continue to explore new avenues for further collaboration and mutual benefit, promoting peace, prosperity and progress for our peoples, together to contribute meaningfully to the community of a shared future for mankind.”
