Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) bantamweight champion Nicholas Hwende will not have to wait a little bit longer before he gets a chance to defend his newly won title.
This comes after his fight against South African Nkazimulo “Zulu boy” Zulu, which was originally slated for Thursday’s EFC 99 event, was moved to next month.
EFC took to Twitter to announce the change in dates.
“Hwende vs Zulu for the EFC bantamweight championship pushed to EFC 100. Nkazimulo Zulu needs time to sort out an issue sustained in his fight against Gian Souza at EFC Fight Night 2. This makes #EFC100 a four-title fight card!”
Hwende captured the bantamweight title at EFC 96, which was held in August, during which he defeated Gian Souza in emphatic fashion.
Ironically, Souza was initially meant to face Zulu in a rematch of their EFC Fight 2 fight, which ended in a draw in May.
But an injury to Zulu prevented the South African fan favourite from taking part, resulting in Hwende stepping in as a last-minute replacement.
Hwende successfully captured the gold in dominant fashion, capping off his own comeback story after he had to go under the knife for a broken hand sustained in the championship fight last year.
EFC 99 is expected to go on as announced, and will be headlined by the EFC featherweight title fight between champion Igeu Kabesa and Bradley Swanepoel.
