NEW: Innovation, agro-industrial parks save millions in imports

PRODUCTION at agro-Industrial parks that were set up by Government in five state universities has saved the country about US$12 million in imports.

Briefing journalists after a Cabinet meeting in Harare on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the construction of Simon Mazorodze Medical School at Great Zimbabwe University is one such project which is already bearing fruits.

“Innovation Hub infrastructure has been successfully constructed at five State Universities,” she said.

“Under the programme, a modern bus terminus was constructed at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

“The construction of Simon Mazorodze Medical School was completed, while the construction and equipping of Midlands State University National Pathology Research and Diagnostics Centre is underway.”

Minister Mutsvangwa said semi-automated manufacturing plants for local production of industrial and household products were established at state universities thereby saving the nation US$12 million in imports.
