NEW: ‘Irregularly cleared vehicles to be seized’

THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) says vehicles that are not cleared or irregularly cleared will be seized if the current moratorium to December 15 2023 lapses.

Said Zimra in a statement:

“The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority is hereby inviting the public, companies or such other entities who may be in possession of vehicles not properly cleared through Zimra to approach their nearest Zimra regional office to regularise the clearance and registration of such vehicles,” the statement said in part.

According to Zimra, irregular cases include vehicles that could have been undervalued, smuggled, imported on temporary importation permit and where permit was procedurally acquired or where the temporary permit has expired.

They also include vehicles cleared through a false claim to a rebate, or suspension of duty or any other violation of the legislation governing the importation of vehicles.

“Persons in possession of the vehicles described above are advised to contact their Zimra offices not later than December 15 2023 to regularise their vehicles.

“Moratorium ends after December 15 2023, and any irregularly cleared vehicle encountered thereafter will be treated as liable to seizure and possible forfeiture in terms of the customs and excise duty act,” said Zimra.
