STUDENTS at Kwekwe Polytechnic College on Tuesday showcased cost-effective machinery and technology to address the country’s industrial needs in the mining and agricultural sectors.
The college, located in the mineral-rich Midlands province, has seen students develop low-cost artisanal mining hoists, gold concentrators and computer software to manage mining operations.
Speaking at the exhibition event, Midlands’ Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube said the economy could not grow without education.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the world over an economy enjoys an education system it promotes and equally promotes an education system it enjoys,” he said.
“This relationship is the basis upon which teaching, research, community service, innovation, and industrialisation resonate with the new dispensation’s endeavour to grow our economy.
“Under the Second Republic’s education 5.0 philosophy, innovation hubs and Industrial Parks have changed the industrial landscape of the country with impactful projects successfully implemented.”
